About Eagle Scholar

Eagle Scholar is the University of Mary Washington's institutional repository - a publishing and archival platform that showcases the scholarly and creative works of UMW faculty, students, and staff. The platform is supported and maintained by the Simpson Library.

Eagle Scholar supports open access principles, by publishing and preserving information that is freely available to the public without any barriers. Some content in Eagle Scholar may have restricted access due to embargo periods, copyright restrictions, or other legal considerations.

Eagle Scholar collects and preserves:

  • Open access articles, including preprints and postprints
  • Open educational resources (OER)
  • Student projects, posters, and capstones
  • Creative works and performances
  • Books and book chapters
  • Journals edited by UMW faculty or students
  • Conference papers and presentations
  • Archival and historical material
  • Research data sets

Benefits:

  • Visibility – Increase the visibility of University scholarship among researchers, prospective students, prospective employees, and other stakeholders.
  • Open Access – Support and promote the principles and benefits of open access to research and creative works.
  • Discoverability – Content in Eagle Scholar is indexed and discoverable in Google Scholar and AI-based discovery tools.
  • Impact – Detailed usage statistics allow authors to track downloads, views, and the reach of their work.
  • Preservation – Provide a stable platform to share the unique history of the University.
