Beginning in Fall 2020, Chemistry and Physics merged into one department. To locate student scholarship published before the departmental merge, please visit the legacy Physics and Chemistry collections.

The Department of Chemistry and Physics of the University of Mary Washington provides students with curriculum focused on the dissemination of the concepts and techniques, theoretically and empirically, of a wide range of physical and chemical phenomena. Well-equipped laboratories supplement and extend classroom instruction. The courses we offer are intended to meet the needs of those students who will become specialists in their field, as well as the needs of general students. Senior chemistry capstone experiences help students hone their laboratory problem solving skills and their oral and written communication. Physics instruction will enable the specialist student to contribute to the use of contemporary physics in the development of future technologies. Students leave the department well-prepared for jobs or graduate study. Learn more by visiting the Chemistry and href="https://cas.umw.edu/physics/"Physics departmental websites.
