About This Journal

Since the beginning, the University of Mary Washington has fostered the creativity and passion of its students. Columns, established by students in the fall of 2022, is a place for the creativity of the students to be shared.

Mission Statement and Purpose

The role of Columns shall be to promote the creation of undergraduate research in the humanities, and create, edit and compile The Mary Washington Humanities and Social Sciences Journal by:

I. Communicating with departments and individual faculty to promote undergraduate research, and to collect and distribute said research as a semesterly-published journal;

II. Organizing club leaders, student editors, and faculty to produce the journal;

III. Holding a semesterly symposium to showcase the scholarship included in the journal;

IV. Fostering an enhanced culture and quality of undergraduate research at UMW.
