The University of Mary Washington Herbarium has over 5,000 specimens, including several over a century old. We have a wide range of Virginia flora, and the collection also includes specimens from across the United States, and a significant amount from Jamaica. The plants were collected by Mary Washington students and faculty, as well as donated by researchers from their collections. The information for this database comes from the Southeast Regional Network of Expertise and Collections (SERNEC), an online consortium for herbarium across the Southeast United States. The Eagle Scholar database of photographs and information was created to make the herbarium more accessible for UMW students, faculty, and the public.
